Death is always a hard thing to talk about, especially when there is a child involved. This is what makes fundraising for items connected with death extra hard. People just dont want to speak about it or think about it for that matter. That is until you are in the living hell of losing a loved one.
The family of James Zander Anderson were in that position a year ago. Losing James was the worst thing that could ever happen. But with the help of Angel Wings Baby and Cild Loss Support an idea was born. In the past they had funded Snuggle Cots, but these were only of use for babies up to three months old. James had been 16 months old. So was there anything else similar to the cots but could be used for older children?
This is where the idea of “James Snuggle Blankets” was born. These bankets could be used from three months up to adult. They are portable, can be used in a hospital or at home. Perfect we thought. So fundrasing began. It was only supposed to be for one blanket to be gifted to Jamie Rodgers Funeral Directors in Aviemore.
But today we are just short £300 short of reaching £25,000. 4 blankets have been gifted in James name already. The first one to Jamie Rodgers to be used throughout Badenoch and Strathspey. Then blankets were gifted to Raigmore Hospital Childrens ward Inverness, Highland Hospice and Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital for the Manchester 22.
Funds have been riased through the kiltwalk for Royal Aberdeen Childrens Hopital and The Edinburgh Royal Hospital for Sick Children and these will be gifted once we receive the funds from the Kiltwalk in December.
But even better, 4 other families have now fundraised in their childrens name for blankets with the help of Angel Wings baby and Child Loss support. So thats 10 blankets in a year right accross the courty.
So the next time we have a fundraiser, or you see one of our shakers or ribbon boxes, please help us to help more families who have found thenselves in the position we were in. And just maybe that blanket will be available to them, its wont take the pain away for them, but it will help make a hellish situation the little bit better.
